For most of us, stepping out of our comfort zone is often a huge thing. We might force ourselves to wake up an hour early to make it to the gym, or we might have to quit that bad habit we’ve been wanting to let go of. But what can you do to push yourself as a senior retiree, when you suddenly find that you no longer have to work, and you have all this free time at your disposal?
Now, don’t get me wrong, not all retirees have a 100% free schedule. However, aside from managing the house work you have to do, taking care of grandchildren and keeping up with your exercise routine, you might also find that on those occasions when you do have free time at your disposal, time tends to go by quicker.
To avoid hitting a wall and establishing a concrete routine that won’t let you get anything done, try introducing a brand new activity each day – even if it only takes a few minutes of your time. Also, consider adding meditation and yoga to your daily routine. These practices will keep your mind clear and allow you to have a better vantage point when choosing your activities. As a resident in one of the nursing homes in Abilene TX they offer activities daily to participate in.
Finally, there’s a lot to be said about gaining inspiration and insight from those around you. When you want to change your routine or get out of your comfort zone to improve a skill, ask your kids or grandchildren to help you stick to your new goals until the new habit is in place.
