Tips For Combating Loneliness As A Senior Citizen

In the case of seniors that age alone in their homes or in senior living communities, loneliness can have devastating effects, physical and mental, especially for those who always preferred to avoid spending time with themselves and get used to their own company. Loneliness in these people can lead to continuous degradation, being also very painful (painful for them and painful to watch as well!).

Most say they had a beautiful and active life up to a point; more specifically, up to getting old. Old age often comes with social, medical and financial challenges. Reduced physical capacity may be accompanied by reduced mental functions. Losing the social role because of the retirement also brings restrictive conditions such as a smaller income or the loss of social circle. Also, the lack of cognitive stimulation and interactions with other people can lead to faster cognitive impairment.

To be happy as a senior, you need to do something, believe in something, head for somewhere, and love someone. To do something concrete means to have an activity that keeps you occupied and gives you the sense of being useful. Not every kind of activity, but one in which you believe and are happy to dedicate your time to. When you do such an activity, you feel you have a purpose, a destination that you have to reach.
