A healthy diet can significantly improve heart health and it can considerably reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular and circulatory diseases – here are a few of the ingredients that are the most beneficial for the heart:

  • Fish – varieties that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as mackerel, salmon, trout, tuna or herring are especially good for the heart;
  • Nuts – eating a handful of almonds, cashews or walnuts can clench your hunger and is also good for the heart;
  • Leafy greens – lettuce and spinach are packed with fiber, vitamins and minerals that are beneficial for heart health;
  • Berries – all berries, especially those of darker coloring are rich in phytonutrients and fiber. Consume them raw, in fruit salads or add them to your plain yoghurt – they are delicious, no matter how you eat them;
  • Dark chocolate and red wine – two delights that are great for the heart if consumed in moderation. Sip one glass of wine every now and then and enjoy a little dark chocolate in the weekends, they do good to your mood and to your heart as well;
  • Orange, yellow and red vegetables, such as carrots, tomatoes, peppers and squash are also healthy for the entire body, the heart included.  Find more "to do's" in staying healthy at https://www.erseniorliving.com/the-craig-retirement-home-amarillo-texas.aspx.
