What Hobbies Are Popular in Assisted Living Communities?

Taking up a new hobby is the best way to keep busy for seniors in assisted living communities who feel that they have more than enough time on their hand – here are a few of the most popular senior pass-time activities:

  • Art – painting, sculpting or pottery are great, low-cost, creative activities that are not physically demanding and are great for keeping the hands busy and the mind calm;
  • Needlecraft – knitting, crocheting, embroidering and sewing are also very entertaining – all it takes to create great things is a little dexterity;
  • Photography – nowadays you can easily find moderately priced cameras that can take art-grade pictures and that allow the photographer to experiment freely with filters, effects and angles. The pics can be printed out or stored and edited digitally, both activities being exciting and entertaining;
  • Reading – a hobby that can be enjoyed anywhere, any time and without any major investment or even completely free if the community has a good library;
  • Yoga – a great, low-impact physical activity that is known to be immensely beneficial for the mind, the soul and the body and can be pursued in groups or alone, whatever the weather, any time of the day.  Remember too, that there is help with respite care Tyler retirement centers have available too, that provide wonderful activities too.
