Ways to Stay Cool During the Hot Colorado Months

Tips To Staying Cool In The Summer Months

Summer is the greatest season of them all, but when it becomes too much and the the temperature hits the eighties or the nighties, we all need some cool, too, especially the residents at Evergreen Senior Living center in Abilene. Fortunately, there are lots of ways that can help us cool down even without a powerful air conditioner running all the time – here are some tips:

  • Use the right type of textile – silk might seem like a great solution because it is a material that is cool to touch, but in fact it is slippery and it absorbs your body heat quickly. Cotton is the best material for the summer because it lets your skin breath and will direct heat away from your body, so try to switch to cotton clothes and bedlinen during the hot days;
  • Be smart with your windows – keep your windows wide open during the night, when the air is cooler and trap that coolness by closing the shutters or drawing the drapes early in the morning – you won’t believe the difference you can make that way;
  • Prepare your food outside – cooking generates a significant amount of heat, so try to limit the time you spend making food in the kitchen. Try to use your grill more, prepare salads and dishes that don’t take long – be inventive with your food, it will keep you cool.
