Beading For Seniors: starting your first beadwork project

Senior Beading A Necklace

Jewelries mean art, style, elegance, but they can also be real historical sources, through which the stages of human development have been deciphered more than once. In the past, jewelries have been used not only as body covering, but also as objects of worship meant to protect from evil spirits, or religious mystical objects. Today, they are, however, symbols of beauty, accessories exercising a great fascination.

As a hobby, beading is great for any age. Seniors can find great joy in making little original pieces of jewelry to wear or to offer as a presents to their dear ones.  It may even be a project you can do for yourself, when taking a break of caring for a loved one, and utilizing the respite care Tyler centers offer.

There are many ways to create jewelries, many methods, many styles, many materials... Before starting the first beading project, you should read something about this craft and get some inspiration from the magazines or the internet.

You should start with a beginner's kit. It typically contains various beads, threads, wires and accessories to allow you to experiment bit by bit, before starting to create more seriously. You can also combine beading with other crafts such as knitting or clay modeling and create original boho pieces of jewelry.

Hobbies give you the opportunity to get to know yourself better and discover your interests and abilities. Last but not least, you can find out that you have talents you did not know about, because you did not have the opportunity to put them into practice. On the other hand, beading also helps training certain personality traits (creativity, patience, discipline, attention to detail etc.).
