Succulent Gardening For Seniors

Succulent Gardening

Juicy plants - including Aloe, Yucca, and Kalanchoe - have an unusual appearance, and that's what makes them so beautiful and popular. Some of their parts (typically the leaves and stems) are thick, fleshy, because this is where the plants accumulate water and use it for a long time to survive.

Succulents thrive even in unfriendly climates, where water is not always available, and this makes them easy to grow; they adapt extremely well in both outdoor and indoor environments.

For seniors, succulent gardening is a great hobby, precisely because it does not require a great deal of effort and brings many satisfactions.  It is actually recommended by the physical rehabilitation centers in Amarillo to stretch your muscles and help with range of movement.

Succulent species are found in many plant families: Agavaceae (Agave, Dracaena, Yucca, Hesperaloe), Crassulaceae (Echeveria, Kalanchoe, Rhodiola, Sempervivum), Asphodelaceae (Aloe), Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbia).

Succulent plants look absolutely beautiful in the garden as well as in any flower pots. Growing them indoors require garden soil mixed with sand, or a special soil for cacti and succulent plants. It is best to find out the recommendations for each plant before planting it.

Besides the fact that they grow in any environment and recipient, succulents also purify the air and have a decorative role; their extraordinary diversity in terms of shape and colors make them able to complement various interior and exterior styles.
