Observed on the third Sunday in June in the US, Father’s Day is a wonderful celebration and a great opportunity to honor our fathers and grandfathers. However, many of us feel that as our fathers age, it is becoming increasingly difficult to make them feel happy and special – many old people reject party ideas and say that they don’t want to be celebrated, even when they do. While no celebration should be against the guest of honor’s will, there are lots of great, gentle ways to express your love and gratitude to your father or grandpa, here are some tips:
- DIY gifts – most elderly people are frugal and don’t like the idea of you spending lots of money on their gifts, that’s why a loving DIY gift, such as a collage of photos or some other artwork made by you or by your children is an excellent present;
- Prepare his favorite meal – make sure to prepare it exactly the way he likes it, even the strictest diet can accommodate a minor slip;
- Spend time together doing his favorite things – whether it is some gardening together, watching his favorite TV show or going out for a round of golf, your time is the greatest gift to your grandpa. If your grandpa is at one of the caring nursing homes in Odessa TX be sure to spend the day with him, talking and reminiscing, bring him laughter and love, play cards or any other type of game he enjoys.
