Mindfulness is a psychological method that teaches your mind to concentrate on the present moment, rather than dwelling in the past or in the future. The process comes with wonderful benefits for the body and the soul – it reduces stress levels and it enables positive thinking, to mention just two. If you are interested in including mindfulness into your daily routine, but you don’t know how, here are some tips to help you:
- Figure out the best time – most specialists recommend to practice mindfulness in the morning, right after you wake up, but if a different time during the day works better for you, pick that time instead;
- Keep your practice short in the beginning – don’t expect your brain to be able to stay in the state of mindfulness for hours. Start with a couple of minutes and gradually increase the time spent being mindful;
- Don’t be too harsh on yourself – the mind is a wanderer and the first step in practicing mindfulness is acknowledging that fact. Don’t stress over it and don’t judge yourself for it – if you don’t seem to take your mind off negative thoughts during your practice, simply stop and continue the practice routine the next day. Get into one of the good physical rehabilitation centers and exercise your body which will help in keeping your mind working too.
