Setting your New Year's resolutions is not that hard, but to get them done ... well, that is another story. The staff at Evergreen Senior Living centers enjoy helping their residents set and obtain reaching their resolutions too!
We tend to perceive the end of the year as the end of a cycle, so in this period, we think more about what we accomplished so far and what we want to accomplish in the coming year. We set different kind of resolutions: personal, professional, sentimental, financial etc. So far, so good. However, typically, as the New Year progresses, we tend to ignore or even forget about our plans. For this reason, many people are giving up making resolutions altogether, to avoid being disappointed when they realize they cannot accomplish them.
In fact, the problem is that many of us are making some mistakes that prevent us from achieving our goals. Here are tips to fix this situation.
The first mistake is to set unrealistic goals. The goals may be either too high, or too many. Instead, try to focus on something that you can reach on your own, without needing a miracle, and focus on one category. Even if your goals do not seem too impressive, remember that any small good change is welcome.
Another important aspect is to set resolutions for you, not for others. You are an individual, your life is your own, regardless of whom you choose to share it with, and you know best how to improve it.
