Creative Ways to Celebrate Your Parents’ Birthdays in Senior Living

Celebrating Birthday With Senior Living Near MeNot many elderly people like to celebrate their birthdays – a birthday always means that one more year has passed by and passing time is not something that most elderly people like to be reminded of. However, most elderly people enjoy being celebrated after all, so here are some creative ways to celebrate the birthday of your mom or dad in senior care:

  • Take the guest of honor to a place they like – many elderly people have a place that they would love to see. If your parent’s health allows it, try to host the party in that place – it would be a refreshing, new scenery, away from the place that your parent spends the day in;
  • Don’t make the party a surprise – old age comes with lots of health-related challenges and the birthday party for your elderly parent will be more of a success if you share your plans with the guest of honor and allow them to prepare;
  • Invite your parent’s old friends – it might take a bit of organizing, but you can try to find and to contact your parent’s old friends and invite them to the party, too. Be very careful, though, you will need to tactfully find out the reason why the ties with those old friends have been severed, you don’t want some unresolved conflict to cast a shadow on your party.  The senior living near me centers in Abilene love to host birthday parties for their residents, as I'm sure they all do.
