Great Volunteer Opportunities for Seniors in Texas

Senior Volunteer Opportunities

Seniors who would like to spend some of their free time helping others through volunteering in Texas have lots of opportunities to choose from. Here are a few of the options available:

  • Teaching – local public libraries are always looking for people with teaching experience to help out with reading stories for the children or to provide language training for adults. Retired teachers are welcome and very much sought for because they can use their vast and lengthy experience to provide quality education;
  • Working with children in hospitals – many hospitals are looking for seniors to do tutoring with children in the hospitals, to read stories for them, to entertain them while they are recovering;
  • Working with animals – Texas zoos are always looking for volunteers to help prepare food for the animals, to assist the researchers and the vets working in the zoos. Animal shelters are also grateful for any help and they welcome seniors who want to assist with animal grooming, cleaning and food preparation;
  • Volunteering for the local community by helping with the organization of fundraising events for charitable causes, such as helping people who in areas devastated by extreme weather events;
  • Collecting clothes and food for needy people, such as poor families or homeless people.  Giving your time to visit with some of the other senior residents in the nursing homes in Odessa TX is also appreciated.
