Succulent And Gardening For Seniors

Gardening For Seniors

Succulents are an excellent option for interior and exterior gardens of seniors who enjoy this activity. Besides being easy to maintain and not requiring much effort, these plants are very beautiful, with sculptural shapes of the leaves, but also delicate flowers. They can become an excellent gift and can be used successfully even for holiday decorations and floral arrangements.  Wonderful gift ideas for the senior living near me in Abilene TX, maybe you too!

Succulents are similar to cacti; they come from arid regions and are accustomed to living in difficult conditions, with little water but with plenty of light. Even the cold does not hurt them, if the temperatures do not drop below 5 degrees Celsius.

Here are some examples of succulents that seniors can grow in their gardens.

Agave

Their family comprises hundreds of species, but only few are recommended for indoor gardens. Agava Victoria is perhaps the most beautiful, globe-shaped, with white-striped leaves.

Aloe

Among the many species, Aloe Vera is most often grown in pots for is medicinal properties. The plant blooms 3-4 years after being planted.

Echeveria

This plant grows in the form of a rosette and its leaves have shades of green-silver, red or pink in sunlight.

Sempervivum

Semprevivum comes from the mountain regions of the Mediterranean; it grows in the shape of a rosette and has different shades, from green, purple and red, to orange or brown.
