While moving closer to one’s family is not always an option, modern technology and the willingness to make a change and to learn new things can work wonders – here are some great methods to come out of isolation:

  • Don’t neglect the friendship – many friendships end for no specific reason, without any conflict or disagreement. Many friendships get discontinued when one of the sides does not reply to a letter or doesn’t return a phone call. You can decide to re-establish the connection whenever you want – the important thing is to keep it going;
  • Get out and exercise – doing something you love outdoors is a way to meet neighbors and develop friendships too!  Schedule an appointment and take an elderly friend to one of the closest physical rehabilitation centers in Amarillo and help them get out and move, and it will help get you out and about as well;
  • Use social media – networking platforms are great for finding and staying in touch with old friends as well as to share experiences. Many seniors are reluctant to learn new communication technologies, but with a little effort, anyone can become proficient in using online communication tools;
  • Go to events – do not isolate yourself, if you get invited to a birthday or to a social event, dress up and attend – you might find it a bit difficult to mingle in the beginning, but it is an excellent way to meet new people and to reunite with old friends.
