How Much Alone Time Is Too Much?

Skilled Nursing Senior Spends Too Much Time AloneIn order to be happy, you must first know how to be alone, but few people offer themselves the chance to spend time in their own company; alone time exhausts them and even puts them in depression, and that's because there is a significant difference between being alone and feeling lonely - and it's not about semantics!

Most people desperately try to be with someone all the time, and for some it does not even matter the identity of that “someone”, because the idea of silence fully embracing them and making them deal with different things on their own frightens these people awfully. They would do anything to get rid of the perspective of being alone. For them, loneliness is like a plague, which is why they associate it with bad luck or failure.

In reality, however, loneliness is extremely important and each of us should learn to be with ourselves first and foremost. Loneliness is not to be feared and should not be mistakenly associated with isolation or unhappiness. It should not be stigmatized, as this attitude makes people to avoid it even more. Loneliness helps us to analyze and get to know ourselves better, to define our boundaries in relationships with others (yes, boundaries are extremely healthy!) and it also gives us freedom and confidence in our strengths.

How much alone time is too much? The answer may be different for each individual and any person must have the freedom to decide which the most appropriate answer is for them.  For seniors at centers and skilled nursing facility Odessa TX is home to, should try to get out as much as they can, not only to help them mentally, but physically as well.
