Different Celebrations Of Cinco De Mayo

Senior Living Cinco De Mayo Celebrations“Cinco de Mayo” comes from Spanish, and it means “the 5th of May”. It is celebrated in Mexico and in many parts of the US. This holiday celebrates the Mexican victory against the French, at the Battle of Puebla, which took place on this exact date, namely on the 5th of May, in the year 1982.

Despite the common belief, this holiday does not mark the Mexican National Independence Day. In the USA, it is a symbol of the end of the American Civil War.

Cinco de Mayo is traditionally marked by festive Mexican cuisine, which includes guacamole, chips and salsa, or tamales. Margarita and michelada are among the most enjoyable traditional drinks. Beer is served with salt and lime, and there are also traditional desserts on this special occasion, including the famous tres leches cake, a cake which contains three types of milk: evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk and heavy cream.

Apparently, the holiday is celebrated more in the USA than it is in Mexico. Apart from the food traditions, the festival includes traditional dances, mariachi performances and other elements that belong to the Mexican cultural heritage.

Another interesting Cinco de Mayo celebration takes place in the Cayman Islands, where an air guitar competition is organized at the Hard Rock Café.  Many of the senior communities like https://www.erseniorliving.com/the-parks-retirement-community-odessa-texas.aspx celebrate Cinco De Mayo for their residents unable to get out in their communities.
