Great Ways to Spend Memorial Day Weekend as A Senior

Ideas To Spend Memorial DayObserved on the last Monday of May, Memorial Day is the holiday for remembering and honouring the brave men and women who died while serving their country in the Armed Forces. Many Memorial Day celebrations involve not only remembrance, but the celebration of veterans as well and in many families, the day is spent celebrating the elderly family members who have taken part in wars.

One of the ways to spend the day is to attend the local Memorial Day parade – if you have a senior family member living in their own home, with you or in a senior living facility, visiting the local parade is a great opportunity to spend quality time together. Just do what you can do, so you don't end up visiting a skilled nursing facility Odessa TX community center.  However, the parade is not the only event that can bring the family together. You can host an extended family dinner where your elderly relative can spend time with grandkids and other members of the family or you can ask your elderly family members about how they want to spend the day – maybe visiting an old army friend is what they prefer or a picnic in the local park is what your elderly relatives would enjoy more. Volunteering is another great way to celebrate veterans – if that is what your relative prefers, you can join in, too.
